Your Weekly AR & VR Review

Hey Everyone,

It’s a bit nippy today isn’t it! I have had to admit defeat and turn the heating on for the first time this year, I really wanted to hold off as it now means that winter is nearing, its not all bad though as I actually really like wearing jumpers and scarves!

Anyhow, It’s been an exciting week for the VR & AR space this week so let’s get started!

1.The Most Socially-Shared VR Story Of The Week

This week’s most socially shared VR story features a pretty sweet video of the Euro Truck 2 Simulator, I hadn’t heard of it before but if you are a fan of simulators then watch the video, I am sure you will be impressed and you will most definitely want to have a go!

The setup is something else and it looks so realistic.

2. The Most Socially-Shared AR Story Of The Week

This week most socially shared AR story features Apple and I cant say that I am surprised considering we’ve just had the unveiling of the new iPhone 8 and iPhone X which, on the face of it seem great, however, I was hoping to see a little bit more from their AR Kit.

Anyhow, Apples AR Kit is having a huge impact and it is undoubtedly the best use of AR yet. Its not just the gaming space that’s benefiting from it either, their are some pretty cool sport visuals as well but I have also seen some really practical everyday uses. All in all its pretty cool and I am looking forward to testing it in more detail soon.

3. Virtual Reality Is The New Pain Relief

The idea that virtual reality is being used to treat pain is a relatively new concept but its popularity is growing. I, like others am a little curious of its potential healing powers and having only used virtual reality for training and games for example, I am curious to find out if it actually works.

There’s been thousands of studies and the evidence is all a bit inconclusive at the moment, so is it just the fact that virtual reality is just a powerful distraction tool. It can be immersed you into almost any environment, its a bit of a weird one really because I find when immersed for longer than 30 minutes I do actually begin to forget my real surroundings so I wonder if its as simple as fooling the brain into thinking your somewhere else! For instance if you are immersed into a relaxed environment then in theory you will become calmer… either way at the end of the day if it makes you feel better than its a good thing!

It’s probably more technical but that’s my view!

4. How Augmented Reality Benefits Retail & Shopping

Will augmented reality revolutionize the retail space? In short yes, although to many AR may seem still like a fantasy, to some it is in fact already having a huge impact in retail and shopping.

The fact that AR can superimpose an image/product into your vision within a few seconds makes its a very viable offering for retailers to offer to their consumers but does augmented reality spell the end of traditional brick and mortar shops that we all know and love. I think its to early to say but after reading this article I think its safe to say that we will all experience AR in the near future.

5. Programmable Augmented Reality Sex Dolls

This is a first, I know that virtual reality porn industry is booming sector but I didn’t ever think that programmable sex dolls would ever be a real thing.

Apparently AR can be used to create a program for your sex doll that allows the owner to create their ideal woman’s personalities and traits! Could this be the end of prostitution! Not sure what else I can add to this other than the fact that it sounds a bit crazy and scary at the same time.
