Your Sunday AR & VR Review

Hey everyone,

What a beautiful day we’re having, it’s been raining solidly for the past few days here, so much so I have decided to make the most of the sunshine and write this weeks review in the garden, a bit hard to see the screen though!

Other than that, I’ve not got much to report apart from it’s been another good week and I look forward to next week being the same.

1.The Most Socially-Shared VR Story Of The Week

This week’s most socially shared story features Alissa White Gluz from Arch Enemy, she is returning to Welcome to Wacken 2016 using virtual reality, having never experienced VR before she gets a bit blown away by it all.

Being honest, I haven’t heard of this event before but after watching the video it’s obviously got a huge fan base.

2. The Most Socially-Shared AR Story Of The Week

Another boost for Apples AR Kit.

A really interesting story actually, I’m always reading something regarding the AR kit, I know it’s a game changer even though right now some of its features are a bit trivial, never the less the fact that it’s all on your iPhone or Ipad says it all.

With Magic Leap and Google Glass making their way into Apple’s market share Apple will be looking forward to the release of iOS 11 in September as there is no doubt that the AR kit will be this year’s hot toy, the fact that it’s a relatively simple piece of kit is the reason it has so much potential.

3. How Far We’ve Come

The reason I have put the below infographic in this week’s review is that I’d like to highlight how far we’ve come in 3 years, this actually made me laugh a little bit!

It shows the technical specifications for the Oculus Rift and a headset I’ve not heard of before called Morpheus, made by Sony?

Okay, so let’s look at the basics, we now have the HTC Vive, Google Daydream, Samsung Gear, Sony VR, Apples AR Kit, Microsoft Hololens and let’s not forget that you can actually buy a VR headset for £10-15.

VR is now being used for training, it’s being used in the healthcare space, gaming is being hugely impacted and of course, there’s AR as well which is in no doubt the future of how we see the world.

4. Mind Controlled Virtual Reality

This has to be a game-changer – Startup Neurable just unveiled the first virtual reality game that users can control with their minds, I can’t even say how excited I am to try it out.

What scenario would you want to be in?

In the game “You are a child held a prisoner in a government science laboratory. You discover that experiments have endowed you with telekinetic powers. You must use those powers to escape your cell, defeat the robotic prison guards, and free yourself from the lab.”

4. Virtual Reality Being Used To Help Dementia Sufferers

Another lovely story and great example of how Virtual reality has the power to improve someone’s well-being, just think for a second what it would be like to be in the shoes of someone suffering dementia and how happy it could make you if you could re-visit some of your favourite places, do the things you want to do all from the safety of your own home, hospice, care home.
